The largest and premier annual “Fancy Pigeon Show” staged by the National Fancy Pigeon Association
23rd to the 27th of June 2010
Hosted by the Western Province Fancy Pigeon Club
at the
Parow Civic Centre, Voortrekker Road, Parow
The Show promises to be a grand Parow event
Already known for its loyal following and history among pigeon fanciers, this show is expected to be one of the most exhibited and talked-about pigeon show in years. Members of the WPFPC are hard at work publicizing the event via radio stations, community newspapers, our newsletter and key principals nation-wide. Many people in all over South Africa are already talking about it. Why? One of the obvious reasons is that Parow is one of the more prominent areas in the Western Cape where pigeon lovers reside.
In 1865 the German ship Kehrwieder, under captaincy of Johann Parow, was wrecked in Table Bay. Parow was named after him and was an independent municipality until the establishment of the metropolitan area.
The show will be held in the main hall filled with more than 1000 top class exhibition pigeons, representing up to 150 breeds, entered by national and local exhibitors. Every bird exhibited will be judged, information will be exchanged, networking among experienced breeders and the public will be vibrant and supported by an information table.
Visitors and new members will have experiences that’ll last a lifetime and the show will be a great forum for family, pet lovers and the intrigued! It will be open to the public and the media will be contacted. Another big draw to this show is that exhibitors won’t have to travel far find a place to eat or go shopping. Parow and its periphery has all the comforts and facilities of a modern city, supermarkets, pet shops, places of entertainment, restaurants, take away food outlets, etc.
If shopping is not for you, then one of the Western Cape’s biggest attractions which is the Wine region should suit your taste. Parow is perfectly placed in terms of getting to those regions. The Durbanville Wine Route situated within the Tygerberg hills, gives you access to nine wine estates basically on your doorstep. This is one of the few wine routes placed close to a major city and a joy to explore.
What to expect
To be honest, we expect a pretty big show, bigger than any normal show we have hosted. As some of you know, we’ve been promoting it since June 09 on radio stations; Radio Voice of the Cape, RSG, GoodHope FM, KFM CCFM, Radio Tygerberg, and in community newspapers, such as the Athlone News, and we expect several exhibitors around the country and; let’s not forget the show is open to the public. Normally our regional shows at public venues and shopping centres attract an average of 3000 curious visitors.
A word from the NFPA president…………….
“As president of the NFPA and the Western Province Fancy Pigeon Club, I, Fadiel Hendricks, would like to extend a personal invitation to all members of the NFPA and their families and friends to make every effort to attend our show. We pledge to make your experience not only memorable, but also unforgettable. I have a great team of dedicated people who will leave no stone unturned to make your visit awe-inspiring and exciting.
At this early stage I want of record a special word of thanks to all our Sponsors - More detailed acknowledgements and thanks will be given after the show.
It is important to note that special efforts have been made to obtain the professional services of International Judges – this will ensure the highest standard of judging – an objective assessment of the best birds in this country – measured against the best in the rest of the world.
We promise to make this the show of the century – a show to savour and to remember!”
So, check out the show programme, then come and join us and our birds as we cause a “flutter” in Parow.
